1979 Mazda RX7 – $36,950

A piece of Mazda Rotary history.The Savanna RX-7 was available in various model grades when new in Japan which in order of specification and price from lowest to highest were Custom,Super Custom,GT and finally Limited. Here is a 1979 Savanna RX-7 GT which is highly original apart from its alloy wheels which were technically an option when the car was new. Unlike the Australian delivered examples all Japanese domestic model RX-7s came equipped with laminated glass, a rear window demister and an AM radio. The GT model received halogen headlights replacing the sealed beam units found on the lower spec cars. The GT also came equipped with beautiful houndstooth cloth inserts on its vinyl seats, luggage straps, a day/night rear view mirror, a map light, and four spoke steering wheel, rear anti roll bar, low profile tyres and chrome dress rings that brightened up the factory steel wheels. When new the GT was priced at 1,440,000Japanese yen. Imported to Australia from Japan in 2017 this car has 70,000 genuine kilometres with a Japan car history report to back it up. The original carburreted 12A engine runs well and starts every time. Regularly serviced using the best Penrite oils throughout, the car has new filters, new plugs, new points, new belts, reconditioned radiator, new cooling system hoses, new clutch master cylinder, reconditioned front brakes, new engine mounts and new BF Goodrich tyres. The spare tyre is full size and is the unused factory original. Suspension feels tight, the car drives nicely. Along with a detailed engine bay a bare metal undercarriage restoration has been carried out. Structurally sound. The car has had paint in its life, it presents very well for its age and is an honest example featuring the rare weather shields. New genuine taillights recently fitted. Always garaged and covered under current ownership. It comes with the original set of GT steel wheels as per specification.
